Realising democracy

Democracy means that everyone in a society can participate equally in shaping that society, which can then thrive on this foundation of generalised equal opportunities. In turn, equal opportunities mean that resources are distributed equally including, for example, the opportunity to achieve the desired level of education, to have time available to use to this end or to have money available for this purpose.

As a segment of the public and a place where technical and social innovations arise, the university must enable the diversity of personal backgrounds that make it possible for equal opportunities to be realised.
On the way to achieving this goal, the university will strengthen its credibility as a societal actor. Its students and staff members will become more confident, self-assured and secure in their interactions with others.

To realise this ideal of a university in which equal opportunities are a matter of course, all university members will be sensitised to current problems.

This will be based on gradual, consistent modernisation of structures, the use of up-to-date teaching methods, intensive networking and compensatory measures where structural disadvantages need to be addressed.
If these premises are fulfilled, then the way is clear for achieving and permanently securing scientific excellence based on a high degree of diversit.
We see ourselves as a strategic partner for all members of the university in the pursuit of a forward-looking, democratic university.
