Student dorms
Studentenwerk Düsseldorf offers rooms for students in numerous halls of residence: There are 23 residences with 3.900 housing options provided for students at the Düsseldorf, Krefeld, Mönchengladbach,
Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort university locations. These are usually 30% cheaper than rooms on the free housing market. Student dorms usually also have the advantage of being situated close to a university campus and therefore simplify getting in contact with other students.
The halls of residence room offers range from single rooms to apartments right up to shared flats and family housing for students with children.
Some houses also offer apartments fit for disabled students.
Please note: Finding the right accommodation is not always easy: There are waiting lists for most student dorms, because, unfortunately, there are not enough rooms for all students. Therefore, we recommend applying for a dorm room as soon as possible.
The free housing market
Additionally, you should look for accommodation on the free housing market. You will find it is very popular to live in a shared flat (= “WG” or “Wohngemeinschaft”), where several people share the rooms in an apartment, the rent and even chores. Living in a flat with German students would be good for you, as you can improve your German language and make the most of your international experience.
