The HSD Winter School is a central component of the HSD-Japan Gateway Project. Held annually at one of HSD’s partner universities in Japan, the Winter School brings together students from Germany and Japan for an immersive experience of project-based learning, intercultural exchange, and international collaboration.
Open to students from all academic disciplines, the program provides a unique opportunity to engage with global challenges and perspectives in an international learning environment. Through close collaboration with their Japanese peers, participants develop intercultural competencies, expand their academic horizons, and gain valuable insights into Japanese society, culture, and higher education.
For HSD students, the Winter School offers a first-hand international mobility experience supported through the HSD-Japan Gateway Project. At the same time, students from the host university benefit from intensive exchange with international participants and the opportunity to build lasting academic and professional networks
.
By alternating with the HSD Summer School in Düsseldorf, the Winter School strengthens the reciprocal nature of the HSD-Japan partnership and contributes to the long-term development of German-Japanese academic cooperation and mutual understanding.
