​How do I apply?

When applying at Hochschule Düsseldorf, many things need to be considered. The correct application process, the correct form of documents and deadlines. Detailed  information can be found below.


1. Where to apply

There are different application procedures at HSD. Where the application documents need to be sent to depends on the origin and educational background od the applicant - some applicants need to send their documents the university application service for international students called uni-assist e.V., others apply directly via HSD. Please check carefully in the chart below which way of application applies to you.

  • an international secondary school leaving certificate (A-levels, Baccalaureate, etc.) and
  • a foreign nationality

  • a German secondary school leaving certificate (e.g. Abitur, Fachhochschulreife) and
  • a foreign nationality

>> and apply for a bachelor study programme.

  • a German or an international secondary school leaving certificate and
  • a bachelor degree from a foreign university

>> and apply for a master study programme

  • an international secondary school leaving certificate and
  • a bachelor degree from a German university

>> and apply for a master programme or a second bachelor degree (Zweitstudium).

  • an international secondary school leaving certificate, which has not been accredited (including GPA transfer) by the district government Düsseldorf (Bezirks​regierung) and
  • a German nationality

>> and apply for a bachelor study programme.

  • an international secondary school leaving certificate, which has been accredited (including GPA transfer) by the district government Düsseldorf (Bezirksregierung) and
  • a German nationality

>> and apply for a bachelor study programme.

  • a foreign secondary school leaving certificate (A-levels, Baccalaureate,etc.)
  • passed a Studienkolleg or the 'Externe Feststellungsprüfung'

>> and apply for a bachelor study programme.


  • a German secondary school leaving certificate from a German school abroad

>> and apply for a bachelor study programme.

  • an international or German secondary school leaving certificate and
  • studied at an international university

>> and apply for a higher semester.

  • a German secondary school leaving certificate and
  • studied at an international university
>>and apply for a higher semester.
  • an international secondary school leaving certificate and
  • studied at a German university

>> and apply for a different study programme (Studiengangwechsel).

  • an international secondary school leaving certificate and
  • studied at a German university

>> and apply with the German university credits for a higher semester in the same field of study (Studienortwechsel).

Please note:

Applicants for bachelor or master study programmes in the Departments of Architecture or Design are required to take an artistic-design aptitude test.

Registration for this test has to be completed prior to the regular application process via the HSD online-application portal. Please inform yourself about deadlines and contents of the different tests on the websites of the different study programmes.

 

Please note:

The allocation of study places for admission restricted all admission restricted (NC) bachelor programmes at HSD is coordinated by the dialogue-oriented service procedure (DoSV - www.hochschulstart.de).

The DoSV is an additional required step in the application process next to the regular application process via uni-assist/HSD

2. Application deadlines

First semester study programmes with restricted admission:First semester study programmes with unrestricted admission:Higher semester:

summer semester:                        Mid/end of November until January 15

The relevant date is when the complete set of documents arrives at uni-assist/HSD.                                        Missing documents can only be submitted before the end of the application deadline.

 

3. Required form of documents

Unless they are written in English, foreign language certificates/ diplomas must be translated into German by a sworn translator.
A list of possible translators can be found here.

You will need to submit copies of the original certificates/diplomas (in their original language) and certified copies of the translations of these certificates/diplomas.
Please submit your certificates/diplomas and the translations thereof as authenticated copies.
Internship certificates must be translated into German and submitted as authenticated copies as well.

Do not submit originals of your certificates or diplomas!

Please note: Hochschule Düsseldorf does not accept authentications from churches or General Students' Committees (AStA).
