The City of Düsseldorf grants permission.
Three of Düsseldorf’s higher education institutions will literally network in the coming years: Hochschule Düsseldorf – University of Applied Sciences (HSD), Robert Schumann Hochschule (RSH) university of music and the Düsseldorf art academy will jointly operate their information, communication and media technology services in the future. On 21 August 2020, Thomas Geisel, mayor of Düsseldorf, Dr. Edeltraud Vomberg, HSD president, Dr. Jörn Hohenhaus, chancellor of the Düsseldorf art academy, as well as Prof. Raimund Wippermann, RSH president, signed the joint agreement. This is the first cooperation of its kind in North Rhine-Westphalia. The ministry for culture and academic affairs of North Rhine-Westphalia has granted permission already in December 2019 and provided the project with funds amounting to €2,039,800 during 2020.
‘The fibre optic ring network is important to strengthen our cooperation also in the field of information technology. Especially in times of the coronavirus crisis, it is necessary to provide a stable network for all students and to promote online teaching,’ emphasised President Vomberg. This means that the fibre optic ring network can connect the different locations of the three higher education institutions. Joint operation of a telephone system is also part of the cooperation. IT infrastructures and applications as well as media technology complete the collaboration portfolio. HSD will provide the technical support.
