If you want to be enrolled at a German university, you are required to have a sufficient health insurance coverage.
The proof of sufficient health insurance coverage is required for a successful enrolment at Hochschule Düsseldorf. Without the proof, you will be be able to enrol and start studying.
Please ensure that the health insurance from your home country covers possible medical costs while you are in Germany.
If you do not have valid health insurance from your home country, you must take out insurance with a German health insurance company before enrolment.
Students from a European Union country or from Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland have sufficient health insurance if they own the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). These students need to take their insurance card to a German state insurance company after their arrival and request an exemption from the required health insurance in Germany.
Choosing health insurance
In Germany, there are two kinds of health insurance: compulsory/public or private insurance.
You must have compulsory public health insurance until you are 30 or until your 14th study semester. Private health insurance is only allowed in exceptional cases.
Please note: once you take out private health insurance, you cannot revert to public health insurance!
