At a glance
You must register at the local Residents' Registration Office within two weeks after moving into your accommodation.
You have to inform the Residents' Registration Office about any changes to your address.
Before leaving Germany, you must deregister (earliest 7 days before the moving out date).
Required documents for registration:
The Residents' Registration Office will give you a written confirmation of your registration ("Meldebestätigung"). Non-EU students will need this documen to apply for a residence permit.
After your registration you will receive a letter from the ARD, ZDF, Deutschlandradio Beitragsservice with the request to register for the broadcasting fee (TV/Radio Tax).
