Semester contribution

At a glance

  • For your enrolment at HSD you must pay the semester contribution (~ 306 EUR per semester).

  • The semester contribution covers free public transport everywhere in Germany, subsidized meals in the student canteens, university sports etc.

  • You can pay it either via bank transfer before your arrival or by card during the orientation week.

All students at Hochschule Düsseldorf must pay the semester contribution ("Semesterbeitrag") for enrolment. The semester contribution should not be confused with tuition fees. It covers free public transport everywhere in Germany, free use of sports facilities and subsidised meals at the student canteens.

The semester contribution is a solidarity payment and compulsory for EVERY student at HSD.

The contribution for the summer semester 2024 is 305,91€.

Payment options

You have two options for paying the semester contribution:

Option 1: Payment via bank transfer

You can pay the semester contribution via bank transfer BEFORE your arrival at HSD.

Bank name: helaba (Landesbank Hessen/Thüringen)

BIC/SWIFT: WELA DE DD

IBAN: DE32 3005 0000 0004 0019 13

Reason for transfer/ reference: your full name and the word “Austausch”

To guarantee that the whole amount is credited to the university account, you need to add in your transfer the order: “free of charges for beneficiary”.

Keep in mind that your home bank as well as the university bank will charge contributions for the transfer.

You must bring the proof of payment with you to the orientation week.

Option 2: Payment by card

You can pay the contribution by card during our orientation week via the service SumUp.

The transfer via SumUp is only possible with the following cards:

Mastercard, Visa, Maestro, American Express, GPay, ApplePay.


There are going to be 1,39% charges for the transaction. Your bank may also charge you an additional exchange rate fee.

IMPORTANT: It's NOT possible to pay the semester contribution in cash.
